SS Eden, a Norwegian cargo ship, was sunk by a torpedo from SM UC-70, a German Type UC II U-boat, 8 to 10 miles SW of Worthing Pier.

Spotted by UC-70, which fired a torpedo at her 10 miles south of Worthing Pier. This torpedo missed, and the vessel attempted to escape, but when UC-70 surfaced she was abandoned by her crew, and the vessel was sunk by a second torpedo
